the syphygmo is the odest method of the two
my answer is based on hospital equiptment not the in home monitors

and i think all health care professionals are taught on those
that being said

the convenience of the automatic is phenomenial!
now that being said
it is electronic and they do malfunction
its nice they can be set with parameters and timed

with either of the machines it is imparative to note that they must be updated and kept calibrated
if you take a blood pressure on either one and its not properly calibrated, you dont have a correct reading

for ease and convenience my vote is the electric

for emergency and ability to travel where a large electric machine can't go ...or for when the electric one malfuctions....i would go for the manual/sphygmo
