Choose the Right Sound Therapy Machine for Your Baby
Baby sleep experts and pediatricians will often recommend a sound machine to help with babies who are having trouble sleeping soundly through the night. A sound machine can help to relax the child and keep away all of the night sounds that can sometimes cause the baby to wake up. The baby will be able to get a good night's sleep, and the parents will be able to rest easier as well.
How do you choose a baby sound machine that will work for you though? You will want to do research on some of the sound machines that are available on the market. There are many to choose from, but some are better than the others are. You will want to look for a few things when you are choosing a machine.
First, make sure that you choose a machine that has the ability to detect external sounds. Many different things can cause a baby to wake up through the night, and colic is only one of them. If you have a barking dog in the neighborhood or neighbors who come home from work late at night, these sounds may wake the baby. Find a machine that can detect the sound and then adjust the levels of the noise that it produces to mask those foreign sounds.
Something else that you will want to consider while looking for sound machines is variety. While you can probably find a machine that only generates white noise, this sound may not be something that will help the baby sleep. Find a machine that offers several sounds in addition to the white noise. Some of the popular sounds that the better machines offer are ocean sounds, waterfalls, crackling fireplaces, and rainfall. Strangely, some babies sleep well to the sounds of the city, so you might want to find a machine that offers this as well and see if that helps.
Cost is also going to be a factor for many families. Fortunately, you should be able to find some of the best machines on the market that sell for between $150 and $200. This is a small price to pay if the sound machine will help your baby sleep. The baby will be happier and rested, and the same goes for the parents. You may also want to read some reviews of the machine so you can see how well it has worked for others.
