How to become a biology teacher?
I am currently working on my bachelors in microbiology (BS program..not BA). I'm not too keen on going into research and not sure what else is out there. I've really had my heart set on teaching and so I want to teach high school level biology. What is the quickest way about this? Do I need to go back for another degree (bachelors in education)..or do I need to minor in education right now? If I decided to get a masters in education..how much longer would that take? Sorry for all the details..I'm just really confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have exactly what you are working on. Bs in micro, I currently teach 7th grade math and science. Here is what you need:
Your teaching credential.
Go to your schools education department. They often offer credentials concurrently. You do not have to switch majors. What you will need to do is get what is called "highly qualified" in Bio. Your ed department will let you know which extra bio courses you will need. (in my day I tested out of the classes, they no longer offer this.. you'll need to have a major equivelent in bio courses... i know micro courses does not count towards this.. odd no?)
So no minor is necessary, just the credential.
