What are the advantages and disadvantages to bonding?

Can dental bonding be used on a porcelain bridge?
I have a porcelain dental bridge that has a metal underlay. I am noticing that my gums are receding slightly and there is a pretty obvious grey line at the gumline. Is there any procedure that can be done to reduce this grey line, without having to get an entire new bridge? Would bonding work?
This happens quite a lot with bridges and crowns when gums recede.
You could try getting a white filling in the gap. The dentist will use bond first and then put the white filling material (composite) over the grey. It may not work though, it depends how dark the grey is. It's worth a try though before opting for a new bridge.
