One of the known type of dental procedures performed by dentist is tooth extraction. Tooth extraction, also known as exodontia, is the process of pulling a tooth from the mouth. This removal can possibly be done in different reasons as your dentist suggests.
But what are the factors that can cause a person to undergo dental extraction? One of the possible causes is when it's no longer practical for you to have your tooth repaired. A broken, cracked, or extensively decayed teeth can be extraction candidates.
A tooth that is not on the right position or no longer function needs to be pulled as well. Some teeth are extracted because they are malpositioned. A wisdom tooth may be a cause of irritation when its positioned in the wrong place which can either be bitten or when constant contact with our cheek. A dentist may recommend the extraction of the wisdom tooth to aid the irritation problem it causes.
Impacted teeth are also candidates for tooth extraction. |Impacted teeth are teeth that have not yet appeared or have partially appeared but cannot fully erupt because it has no place to grow, it has not been aligned or when another teeth has been positioned in its place already. And because they are malpositioned they are often non-functional thus making them a candidate for extraction.
In most where the teeth have been afflicted with advanced periodontal diseases, dental extraction is also required. Teeth that are afflicted with advanced periodontal disease has supporting bone that has been impaired. As periodontal disease worsens, a tooth is supported by less and less surrounding bone, often to the point where the tooth becomes loose. Dental extraction may be recommended when the supporting bone has been greatly afflicted and when teeth becomes more loose.
Some teeth might be extracted because they provide very little service to the dental patient but do offer risk for becoming problematic. One good example is a wisdom tooth that has grown but has no partner tooth to bite against. Wisdom teeth are eventually located in the area of the mouth where it is difficult to clean and can cause its neighboring teeth to be at risk for tooth decay and some other periodontal disease.
Another good reason for tooth extraction is when your preparing for orthodontic treatment or the widely known as braces. This happens when an orthodontic treatment is done and the dentist wants to perfectly align the patients teeth within the confines of the size of the person's jaw and thus tooth extraction is required.
Having one's tooth removed may be a one of the most painful dental procedure to undergo. But we have to bear in mind that it's also one way of taking care of our teeth to avoid dental problems in the future.This would mean saving your money as well as your time in the future by avoiding more dental problems.

Is a dental bridge sufficient as a replacement for a tooth at the front?
I had a baby tooth taken out just under 1 year ago as the adult tooth never grew down and have been wearing a denture ever since (thrid tooth from front of mouth). As I am only 26 I am now looking for something more permanent and am thinking of having a dental bridge. My only other option is to have oral surgery to extract the adult tooth from my gum above and then have the implant but I feel that this is too invasive. Will a bridge be sufficient?
Have you looked into what a bridge entails? They have to basically cut away half of the tooth on either side of the missing one which has been known to cause irreparable damage to previously healthy teeth. I know that implants are more costly and time consuming, but at least it wont affect any of your other teeth. Its a tough decision that ultimately only you can make, but talk to your dentist in as much detail as you can about any concerns or questions you have and trust them to suggest what they feel would be best for you.
