Dental Phobia The Whys And Hows
Dental phobia causes a lot of distress which will have impacts on the aspects of your life and of course your oral health.
Dental phobics will spend most of their time thinking about the dentists or the dental situations and thinking about the condition of their teeth or spending time trying not to think about it.
Here are the most common causes of dental phobia.
• The most common is actually imaginative interpretation. Remember that last movie you've watched? With screams coming out from the dentist room. How do you interpret that?
Most phobics have the fear of dentist without ever having visited the dentist from transmission of the media.
Hearing other people's horror stories about painful visits to the dentist have a similar effect. These would create the stereotyping effect where phobics would totally either never visit the mentioned dentist or avoid all dentists at all costs.
• Most individuals with dental phobia have had previous traumatizing dental experiences. They do not view their symptoms as "excessive" or "unreasonable", and in that sense resemble individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder. True, innate dental phobias, such as an "irrational" fear at the sight of blood or a syringe, probably account for a smaller percentage of cases
• Other causes of dental phobia include insensitive, humiliating remarks by a dentist or hygienist.
Does that comment made by a previous dental experience made you feel insecure? In fact, insensitive remarks and the intense feelings of humiliation are one of the main factors which can cause or contribute to a dental phobia. We are social animals, and negative social evaluation will upset most of us.
• Even among dental professionals, that it is the fear of pain that keeps people from seeing a dentist. But even where pain is the person's major concern, it is not pain itself that is necessarily the problem. Otherwise, dental phobics would not avoid the dentist even when in pain from toothache. Rather, it is pain inflicted by a dentist who is perceived as cold and controlling that has a huge psychological impact.
Pain inflicted by a dentist who is perceived as caring and who treats their patient as an equal is much less likely to result in psychological trauma. Many people with dental phobia report that they feel they would have no control over "what is done to them" once they are in the dentist's chair.
• A history of bullying or having been physically or emotionally abused by a person in authority may also contribute to developing dental phobia, especially in combination with bad experiences with dentists. After all the mentality of having the dentist in control once you're in the dentist's chair could be overwhelming.
What should you do if you suffer with dental phobia?
The first and most important thing to realize is that you are not alone!
You are not alone. You may find that sharing your experiences with people who really understand what you are going through helps. Most dental phobics who have overcome their fears or who are now able to have dental treatment will say that finding the right dentist has made all the difference.
Remember there is no reason to put your dental health in the hands of someone you are not comfortable with. If you have reservations about a specific dentist, it may be wise to keep looking. You should know for sure when you have found a dentist who works well for you.
It takes a lot of courage to take that first step into the dental clinic.
Look up for information about your biggest fear and it will be worth it if the end result could be a life free from dental phobia.

Is this Normal After Wisdom Teeth Removal?
Okay, so I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed 2-2 1/2 weeks ago and today I had fried chicken for dinner since my oral surgeon said at the last follow up check-up that it's safe to eat real foods. Well, after I finished eating, I used my medicine dropper (which works just as good as a dental syringe) to get the food out of the sockets. Well on one of my sockets it's still pretty big and it look like there was some food in there. It was white, and I thought it was food so I tried to wash it out, but it didn't come out, so I carefully tried a toothpick to get it out and the odd thing is still wouldn't come out (normally it does if it was food) My question is. It the white stuff in my socket, food? or is it something else like it's part from the surgery weeks ago? Also is it normal to have it in my mouth? I'm just curious...Thank you.

i got my wisdom teeth out a week ago from yesterday. i have white over mine as well. Im not sure what they are, scabs or something. But they are part of the healing process.
