Suppose a drill starts at rest and comes up to operating speed in 2.01 s. Calculate the angular acceleration produced by the drill, assuming it to be constant. Give answer in rev/s^2. Do not enter unit.
How many revolutions does the drill bit make as it comes up to speed? Do not enter unit.
So for the first part I've been doing:
(353000 rev/min * 2pi rad/rev * 1/60 min/sec) /2.01s
Giving me 18391
But it is incorrect. What am I doing wrong??
The problem is stated in terms of revolutions, not radians, so there's no need for any radian conversion. Leave out the 2pi factor and you should get the correct angular acceleration.
You don't need the numerical value for angular acceleration to solve the second problem, by the way. Only the fact that it is constant. The average angular velocity under constant acceleration is the average of the starting and ending velocities. And the number of revolutions will be equal to the average angular velocity, measured in rev/sec, time the given 2.01 s elapsed time.
