Fetal Doppler Monitors
The fetal Doppler monitor was invented in 1958 by Dr. Edward H. Hon. The fetal Doppler monitor is also known as a Doppler fetal heart rate monitor. This monitor is used to detect a fetal heart rate. The Doppler effect is used to provide an audio sound for the fetal heart beats. There are monitors that can also display fetal heart rates for a better picture of the fetus’ heart condition.
A fetal Doppler monitor works like a stethoscope. The audio produced, however, by the Doppler can be heard by many unlike the stethoscope when only one person can listen to the sound. A disadvantage would be the interference cause by outside sources that it is necessary to apply a transmission gel to help in the signal.
Fetal Doppler monitors are now becoming popular for home use. Manufacturers make available portable models that are easy to carry around and convenient especially for pregnancy conditions that require regular checks on the fetal heart beat.
