Question for women who have undergone hysterectomies (speficially vaginal)?
After years of irregular menstrual bleeding and numerous treatments (D&C’s, IUD’s, birth control pills), my doctor has recommended a hysterectomy.
She says I’m likely a candidate for a vaginal hysterectomy. In reading about the procedure it seems that I would have the entire uterus removed, including my cervix.
My questions are:
1.What was your total recovery time?
2.Was there a lot of post-operative abdominal or vaginal pain following the procedure?
3.How long was your hospital stay?
4.Was sexual pleasure effected by the removal of the cervix?
5.Was the ability to achieve orgasm effected in any way?
(Questions 4 & 5 are of grave concern to me and my husband)

As an aside, as long as the scheduled ultrasound shows no problems with my ovaries, they'll be staying, so hormonal changes shouldn't be much of an issue with regard to sudden-surgical-onset menopause.

I had a vaginal hysterectomy done last year, I was 28 at the time. It took me at least a week before I could walk up and down the stairs. I sat or laid all day for that entire week. I was able to lift things again after 6 weeks. It was probably 6 months before all the pain was gone. I could tell when I was doing too much.
The pain was unreal! I did not use the morphine button enough, so they took it away from me. I have a high threshold for pain, I was taking about 3 percocet a day. I would say the worst part was when I was in the hospital and they got me up to go to the bathroom, hit the button like crazy!!!!!
I stayed in the hospital for 3 days because i wasn't ready to go home yet. They would have sent me home the next day, I said no, and stayed one more night.
The sexual pleasure is great! The feelings are different now, some of the positions feel better than others.
My ability to achieve orgasim has not changed, if anything I would say it is better.
