The Implant Procedure
Once your dentist has determined that implantation is a good fit for you, the first step is to drill the hole in your jaw where the artificial root will be placed. The hole is not drilled all at once; in order to avoid bone damage, it is necessary to start out with a tiny pilot hole and widen it gradually by increasing the bit size.

In the meantime, the prosthetic tooth is custom made to resemble the patient's other teeth. The usual material is ceramic, which is quite durable and used for dental caps and crowns.
