CPM Machine for Knee Surgery
Did you just endure an orthopedic surgery on your knee? So you in all likelihood have a sufficient amount of pain and weakness that you are having to deal with. Continuous passive motion or CPM is a therapy used after orthopedic surgery and has beenused for over 30 years. CPM has been tested to reduce swelling, reduce pain, maintain and augment range of motion, andimpede formation of scar tissue.
CPM functions by keeping the joint zone moving very gently in a slow rhythmic pattern that doesn't engage the muscles near the repaired site. This way the muscles have a possibility to strengthen and heal without being overused, yet that zone gets healthy movement to ensure a faster, fuller recovery. The continuous motion allows the joint flexibleness and helps extend the patients range of motion which helps decrease the risk of complications.
The great thing about the CPM machine is it can be used for at least 8 hours a day while the two to six weeks following your surgery. In fact it is advocated to use it for at least that 8 hours, if not more. Because it is a passive system, you can normally use the CPM for as long as you want, or as long as you feel gratified doing so. It is always a wonderful idea to ask your doctor and/or speak with a competent customer service representative for the business you end up using.
Typically this apparatus is very easy to use and comes ready to use right out of the box. These products will come with complete instructions on how to safely use the equipment if there are any questions. It is imperative to remember that you do still need to exercise. This is not an alternate for your routine physical therapy, only an extra tool. Your doctor will be able to tell you the precise path that will benefit you most, so make sure to put in some time conversing this with him or her.
A CPM machine can be an exceptional tool for anyone who has just gone through orthopedic surgery. It will help improve your range of motion and customarily helps keep swelling down.
