Functions of dental Implant
Dental Implants are root-shaped, metal anchors that are embedded under the gums and supported by jaw bone.The Immediate Function procedure with Nobel Biocare implants is clinically proven and the success rates are similar to those of conventional implant protocols. The results from these studies show that Immediate Function is possible in all oral regions and the following should be considered when performing the treatment.
Implant Body - It is a portion of implant system within the bone.
Cover Screw - It seals the occlusal surface of the implant during osseointrgration( the interface between the alloplastic material and the living tissue)
Healing Abutment - It is a cover attathed to the implant which is used to maintain the opening through the tissue until the restoration is completed.
Abutments - They are the components of the implant system that screw directly into the implant.There are diiferent types of abutments available like standard, fixed, angled, tapered and nonsegmented.
Impresssion Posts - They are the component used during the impression procedure to transfer the position of the implant to the cast.
Lab Analog - Made to represent exactly the top of the implant fixture in the laboratory cast.
Waxing Sleeves - They are attatched to the abutment by the relating screw on the laboratory model.
Prosthesis Retaining Screw - Screw used to secure a screw- retained metal framework.
Common Types of Dental Implants :
Root-Form Titanium Implant
Of all the types of dental implants, the root-form titanium dental implant is the most common. This option is also known as an endosseous or endosteal implant, a name that stems from the fact that these tooth implants are placed directly in the bone. Root-form implants are made of the reliably strong and corrosion-resistant metal titanium, making these dental implants very similar in appearance to screws, nails, or cones.
Sub-Periosteal Implant : The sub-periosteal implant is commonly used in patients who do not have enough bone in the jaw to support a root-form implant. Sub-periosteal tooth implants are placed over the jaw, rather than in it.
Plate-Form Implant : This category of dental implant consists of a rectangle of metal with either one or two metal prongs on one side. Plate-form implants are placed vertically in the jaw so that the prongs stick up into the mouth and provide a place for the artificial tooth to be placed.
Ramus-Frame Implant : Commonly used in patients with a thin lower jawbone, ramus-frame tooth implants are placed in the jaw at the back of the mouth and near the chin.
Transosseous Implant : Used only in the lower jaw, transosseous tooth implants are bolted onto the jawbone and extend along the entire bottom half of the mouth. This dental implant configuration is rarely used.
