How can I make a model of a simple pressure meter?
this is my physics project...so guys i need ur help...
A simple U tube with water will work to measure pressure in terms of inches of water. A barometer made with water instead of mercury, will support a column of water about 33 feet tall. The U tube works by connecting one side to a vessel with a flexible tube and leaving the other side open. Then, the pressure change from atmospheric can be measured by measuring the distance between the two levels in the tube. You can make a simple barometer from a coffee can, a large balloon and a straw. Cut the balloon and stretch the rubber to form a flat surface closing off the open end and tape it in place. All you want to do is trap existing air. Tape the straw so the end is in the center of the rubber. Put the can on a shelf with the rubber diaphragm on top so the straw is in front of a card or something on which you can make marks. As air pressure changes from day to day, the rubber will flex up or down and the straw will swing in proportion to the air pressure. Lower pressure will make the rubber bulge out a bit, making the straw pointer move downwards, the opposite if the air pressure rises. The can edge acts like a fulcrum. The longer the straw sticking over the edge, the smaller change that will be detected. A real barometer uses a metal can with flexible sides and and some gears to move the needle, but both the store bought barometer and this one made from a coffee can work on exactly the same principle to measure air pressure. Yours needs calibration. The next thing you do is listen to the weather and check the barometric pressure where you live and mark the value on yours. Trim the end of the straw so it makes a point. Later, after many days, you will have yours calibrated to be as accurate as the weather reports for your area.
