Strange Types of Lasers You Might Not Know Before
There are many types of lasers; they are depending on different types of laser medium. There are three chief types of lasers are solid state lasers, gas lasers and liquid lasers. The gas medium also can be called semiconductor laser medium.
At first, I only knew the solid state lasers, such as garnet or ruby. In scientific researches and many other applications, the solid state lasers are used for detecting ecological pollution. For example, the ruby or neodymium-Yttrium Aluminum Garnet (YAG) lasers are all classic solid state lasers, and in solid matrix, which have laser emitting materials arranged. Gas lasers can not produce light on its own, which need an electric current to pass through, and then the light can be given out. The technology of gas laser has been improved; its medium used comes from a combination of helium and neon with carbon dioxide at the early days to the stronger and volatile mediums like hydrogen and fluorine at present days. Gas lasers have been popular used in military applications. It made the hard materials cuttings become so easy.
Another lasers, we called Liquid lasers or dye lasers, which make use of liquid organic dyes. You can see broad, continuous range of colors show from liquid lasers, mainly in the visible part of the spectrum. How can the liquid or dye lasers be used? The semiconductor lasers, which can only in very low power and usually use very small devices. We also called the Semiconductor lasers as diode lasers. This kind of laser may be the most common to us which are very useful for electronic devices like CD players, laser printers etc. You will find them in some CD players' writing sources and our handhold laser printers that we played mostly.
