Learning the Maintenance of Microscope
For maintenance, the microscope should be stored in a cool, dry, dust free and acid free place. The appropriate place for storing is a microscope box that is equipped with silica gel, which is hygroscopic, so the environment that surrounds it not humid. Moreover, you can place the lamp in a cupboard to prevent the growth of fungus.
For non-optical microscope part that is made of metal or plastic, it can be cleaned by using a flannel cloth. To clean the dust that stuck in the microscope, you can use a small brush or camera lens brush.
Meanwhile, microscope lens (ocular, objective, and condenser) is cleaned by using lens tissue that is given 70% alcohol. You should never clean the lens by using a handkerchief or cloth.
The residue of immersion oil on objective lens can be cleaned by using xylene. However, you should be careful to use it. Do not let the liquid xylene attached to the non-optical microscope parts because it will damage the paint or damage the plastic material. Also, do not use this liquid to another lens unless the manufacturer states that such action is safe.
Before storing the microscope, it is suggested for you to always clean it, especially to remove all immersion oil on the surface of lens, so the soft particles do not stick and dry. Oil and fine particles on the lens can cause scratches. This matter decreases the ability of the lens. The object that is left on the table of a microscope is a clear sign of negligence/carelessness.
In addition, before storing the microscope, you should set again the table of microscope and keep away the objective lens from the object table by rotating the propulsion device to its original position. The condenser is lowered again, the light intensity is diminished and then turned off (if your microscope is electric microscope).
By complying with instructions for use and maintenance of the microscope, it is hoped that this tool can survive longer to be used on all laboratory activities.

Do you guys make telescopes and microscopes mostly or deal with fiber optic cables?
Microscopes and Telescopes are couple of areas an Optical Engineer might deal with.
There are a few areas within Fiber Optics that an Optical Engineer would be involved in.
1) The obvious first would be with the actual Fibers. The materials used, the manufacturing process and the packaging to achieve the desired results.
2) There are passive components to fiber optic networks. Mechanical and fusion splices, connectors, equipment interfaces, patch panels, filters, multiplexers and demuxiplexers. These last are how DWDM & CWDM allow multiple lasers and channels of light to travel on the same fiber. - This is a fascinating use of optical physics. Think of it as using each color separately that you can see with a prism.
3) Optronics is the interface between the light energy and electrical energy. This is all the transmitters (both LED & lasers), receivers, optical amplifiers (light can be amplified by use of a pump laser) as well as sensors, switches and all manner of ingenious devices.
Other areas for an Optical Engineer are
Glasses: Eyesight augmentation, even laser surgery.
Cameras: Not just with a camera manufacture, but for use with computers, cell phones, and industrial robots. Future use? Possibly incorporated into automobiles to sense objects in blind spots. Security systems: The fridge might limit access to who is attempting to get at the ice cream.
TVs: The whole 3D TV rage would not be happening without some optical engineering.
Solar: Both passive and active solar systems depend on understanding of where the light is going. PV (Photovoltaic) modules may use optically engineered glass on the surface to capture and direct the most light to the silicon crystals. PV works best in the bright sun but lower temperatures. So an Optical Engineer is tasked with designing a method to absorb as much light in the frequency range of the cells range while rejecting as much of the solar energy outside of that range.
Solar Thermal is almost the opposite. Those systems seek to absorb as much of the energy as heat as possible.
Solar Cookers. Optical Engineers could work on refining solar cookers to use in countries with limited fuel supply, to use while camping or in areas of the country where using the abundant solar energy could reduce the use of fossil fuels.
As you can see there are a lot of applications that may involve an Optical Engineer along the way.
