Is red or black iron oxide better for thermite?
The goal is to be able to melt through aluminum alloy (forgot exactly what the alloy is). Either way, the temperature from either reaction should be sufficient.
The question is this: which would be better for melting it completely?
If you can provide the maximum temperature achieved, burning time to achieve it, and amount of thermite used that would answer the question.
My speculation is that a lower temperature, and thus a slower burning thermite would be better at melting it.
Any suggestions, ideas, etc are welcome, this is for a project and I know the dangers and precautions to take when working.
im not sure. never heard of black rust, but mythbusters thermite looks red so i assume red is better
