The Importance of Having CPR Masks Ready in the Workplace
The work environment is filled with people who are working for the success of the company. When the job is in a production or manufacturing plant, it would mean dealing with large machineries, hazardous chemicals, or volatile liquids. Aside from that, this would also mean that the worker would be doing other types of manual labor processes.
If the workplace deals with these things, the risk for accidents is relatively higher. Hence, it is very important to have first aid kits on hand because these kits can greatly help in saving lives. Accidents can happen anytime but it is most common at these types of workplace. It is very important to have medical personnel on standby in order to provide immediate first aid in case an accident happens. It can also help if the employees are knowledgeable in some basic first aids in case there aren't any medical personnel available to administer it.
One important first aid that should always be readily available would be CPR masks. A CPR mask is used whenever cardiopulmonary resuscitation is needed. The procedure of CPR is essential since it supplies oxygen and promote blood flow to the lungs and the heart. The mask can be used to make sure that the person who will be delivering cardiopulmonary resuscitation will be safe from infectious diseases, bacteria, and transfer of blood and other bodily fluids from the patient or vice versa.
There are numerous types of CPR masks on the market today which can provide various safety options for performing CPR.
The CPR mask is a device that is used to safely deliver CPR or rescue breaths in case a person suffers from cardiac arrest or respiratory arrest. This is just a small device but it can help a lot especially during cardiopulmonary resuscitation. This should always be present in the first aid kit of a manufacturing plant or a production plant where accidents are most likely to happen. Oxygen is administered to the patient by the emergency responder or medical personnel in that workplace. The emergency responder will exhale through the one-way filter valve.
There are some modern CPR masks wherein there could either be a built-in one-way valve or there could also be an attachable disposable filter that will help in protecting the person who will be responding to the first aid from the potentially infectious bodily fluids like vomit or blood of the patient. There are also some masks that have their built-in oxygen intake tube which allows administration of at least 50-60% oxygen.
Although using CPR masks such as a pocket mask may not be as effective as using a bag valve mask, it has its own advantages especially when used for first aid. The bag valve mask type may require two persons to respond to the emergency while the pocket mask can be used by a single person and provide first aid effectively. However, these two are still regarded as a type of CPR mask and can be effectively used when initiating first aid.

Will this mask keep me from getting swine flu? Do I need an exhalation valve?
I am due to travel in a few days and, well, airports seem like a bad place to be given the swine flu epidemic. I went to a medical supply store and bought some N95 surgical masks. This is the exact mask: http://medicom.com/productdetails.ch2?productid=264
Will it keep me from getting sick at the airport? I see some masks have valve on them. Mine don't. Do I need a valve? What does it do? Thanks. Any info would help. I might look dumb at the airport but if it'll keep me from getting sick, it's worth it.
N95 Particulate Respirator will work fine.
the valve is just for letting the moist/warm air out and it wont make a difference to your safety just your comfort.
You'r still playing a game of chance with it, they don't have 100% filtration, but its better than going with nothing, just make sure you have it sealed right.
Here is a guide to sealing it : http://www.natlallergy.com/images/art/8233user.pdf This is for the N100 but the steps will work for making sure N95 is sealed properly.
Here is what they're saying about using masks, what kind, and other information/FAQ's:

Already 1 death in the US.
Better safe than sick, death, and sorry.

Good luck. Stay safe. @>-'--,--
